Last week and again today we played with Play Dough. I had Kellyn make name and other short words. I used to do this in my classroom when I taught 2nd grade to practice spelling words. I am dyslexic and having to write spelling words over and over again was so boring and hard for me. I swore I would never make my students do that everyday. On Wednesdays I would I spray a pile of shaving cream on their desks. I would call out a spelling word and they would try to be the first one to write the word correctly with their finger in shaving cream to earn a point for their team. It was fun not to mention it made the room smell better and cleaned their desks off. On Thursdays I would call out a spelling word and the kids would try to be the 1st to make it and have it spelled correctly earning a point for their team. This gave the kids a tactile and physical memory of how the word felt, looked, and was shaped. I'm doing this with Kellyn to help her learn how to write her name. She is having trouble with the letters K, Y, & N because they all have slanted or diagonal lines in them.

Rhett just kept putting Play Dough in his hair while we built letters. |
Last Friday we made a Thanksgiving banner. Kellyn loves glitter and flowers and I just happen to have some fabric flowers in fall colors in my scapbooking kit.
