This year I decided to go for the cheap Santa picture. The ones at the mall look nice and all, but cost like $25 and the kid just ends up crying so is the tradition really worth the money. A few friends of mine told me there was going to be a FREE Santa at Escape Coffee in Carrollton right by our house from 5:00-9:00 on Wednesday, Dec. 15 and Thursday, Dec. 16 and it was to raise donations for Young Life. So, #1 I really wanted to support Young Life and #2 it was in the evening so Max would be home to help me. This was Max's first time to experience the trauma that is Santa Pictures. I talked to the kids about it ahead of time and got them all excited, and like I did last year and the year before I packed a bag of M&M's to encourage them to smile while sitting on a strange man's lap. This has worked well for the past 2 years. However, when we got there last night Kellyn seemed excited to see Santa, but Rhett began to cling to Max the closer and closer we got to him until finally bursting out in tears. So Kellyn began to cry because her baby brother was crying and she refused to sit on Santa's lap first with Rhett so upset. So we ended up getting a family picture.
Santa told Max to sit on his lap with Rhett to get him comfortable, but Max could not have been more uncomfortable when Santa pulled him down!! It was hysterical.
Poor Santa is back there somewhere! At least you can see Rhett's Christmas necktie in this one. And why did Max have to wear a shirt that looks like Santa is touching him inappropriately?
And here is the final product, our official Santa picture for 2010. I love it!! It makes me laugh out loud every time I look at it because Max's discomfort. Way to take one for the team, babe!
Now, why is this a tradition we put our kids through again?
