Fun with Instagram in the Leaves!

I was very hesitant and one of the last people I know to get a smart phone. I've written before about how I believe technology contributes to less connection with our children. I didn't want this to happen to me so I boycotted all smart phones for as long as I could. But when our contracts were up in May Max wanted us to both get new phones, iphones. Blah. But Max had just became self-employed and was working out of his car and really, really needed a smart phone. I totally agreed with that. Plus our phones were acting up and it would be nice to have a phone that worked correctly. I just didn't want us to became that pretentious couple that you see constantly looking at their phones instead of each other or their children. Yuck! Not  me! So when we went to look at phones for my birthday/ Mother's Day gift this year the sales person told us to wait until September when the new 4s would be coming out. So we decided to wait in the hopes that the old phones would go on sale and then Max could get the new phone for his business. I got a 4G and Max got the new 4s with Siri. We got them the weekend we were supposed to have Kellyn's 5th birthday party, but she got sick and we had to reschedule for the following weekend. This was also the same weekend Max and I had tickets to the Ranger's Playoff game. Needless to say I didn't get to go, but Max filmed the Ranger's celebration on his brand new phone. That was pretty cool and so crystal clear. They have been a little addicting as I feared, but now that the new is wearing off it's not as bad. I decided to not put any games or videos on it so as to keep the kids from looking at it as a toy. I don't want them to get addicted to it and feel the need to be constantly entertained instead of using their own imaginations and real tangible toys and crayons and playdough to play. In all honesty, if I really wanted to look at my phone less and use it just as a phone for making calls instead of as an entertainment device, I should probably take the Facebook app (it's the devil), but I'm not there yet. But it isn't all bad. I love the different coupon apps. Any time I go into a store I pull up a coupon to be scanned at check out, so cool. But my favorite thing of all and the best reason to get an iphone is Instagram!

Yesterday, Max received some potentially good news that would help him start his own staffing company. He was so excited and had so much energy that he not only raked all the leaves in our yard, but the leaves in 3 of our neighbor's yards as well all during Rhett's nap time and while Kellyn and I were a birthday party. So today the kids and I helped him bag all these leaves. However, we got a little distracted and tired along the way. So I busted out my iphone and took some pics of the days activities with the Instagram app.

Kellyn said she was too tired to keep helping.
Isn't this just the cutest picture ever. And it was taken with my phone.
Such a sweet baby girl. Sometimes it's pretty neat to have a daughter. She loaned me one of her headbands since I was having a bad hair day.

Child labor is a wonderful thing :)
 Such good helpers.

Rhett did a lot of sitting, singing, and walking around trees. He took it upon himself to become the foreman instead of a worker.
20 bags of leaves!
Every store was completely out of those giant leaf bags. Max wanted to mow too because we are getting the yard fertilized tomorrow before it rains.

Look how good Instagram made our sweet Miss Lily look. She looks like she could win Best in Show.

And we found a gecko when we unwrapped the tarp.

Thank you, Instagram App for pictures that really tell a story.

  1. Great pics! I love your headband-seriously, its cute!
By the way-I do not have a smart phone and I dread the day I have to get one. Tommy just bought me a new for Christmas and its the old fashioned type-a slider w/ full keyboard!I love it!

  2. Thanks. I kind of liked the head band too, but would feel weird wearing it out in public since I borrowed it from my 5 year old. I'm worried it isn't age appropriate for me :(

I do miss my full keyboard on my phone.
