Presentation Then Back to Reality

This morning I got to get dressed up and look all professional and give a presentation to Saint Ann's Mother's of Young Children in Coppell on the topic of Discipline Through Decoding Behavior. Makes me sound smart and important doesn't it. Well, don't be fooled. That good feeling and important feeling I get from giving these presentations about 3 times a month doesn't last long. Once I walk back in the door at home I'm back in Mommy mode for the rest of the day. I went from being the professional key note speaker to the shlumpy stay at home mom in a matter of moments. It's fine though. It keeps me grounded. It is where God wants me at this season in my life. It keeps me connected with my audience and my clients. I miss my job as a School Counselor, but I would miss my kids even more if I were at work. I love that God has allowed me to not miss a moment of their ever changing lives while at the same time bring knowledge and encouragement to the lives of other parents. I really enjoy parent coaching because it makes me feel like I am still contributing to society.

When I got home today I came home to my mom and kids in a toy ridden house. Below is what happens when your kids have been used to playing outside in the hot sun for over a week straight and then all of a sudden a cold front comes in and they have to play inside and pull out all their toys.

Kellyn was still in her pajamas and my kitchen floor was covered in mud and this gross pink concoction.

My kids constantly remind me that I am not the expert in parenting. I just know how to guide parents to their own self-discovery of what will work best for their family.

After nap time we took the dog for a walk to the park. The kids wanted to stop and touch these flowers that had recently bloomed. And Rhett stopped to point out every white dot of bird poop along the way.

I guess it was too cold for the rest of the neighbors because we were the only ones there.

Back to life, back to reality....
