Tornado Tuesday

The Farmer's Almanac has shown for years and years and years that it always hails the 1st week of April at which time Texas has the greatest chance of tornados. This is why I booked my wedding (9 years ago) the 2nd weekend of April which according to the Farmer's Almanac is the most beautiful weekend of the year! So when the sirens go off during the 1st week of April it's not a drill!
Tuesdays are usually our slow goin' days. Rhett and I dropped Kellyn off at preschool then made a quick run to Kroger then went to Calloways Nursery to pick out plants for our Spring garden and Kellyn's butterfly garden then we came back and had lunch. I put Rhett down for a nap about 1:00 so after my dad called and told me to hurry up and go get Kellyn because a tornado was coming. My mom came over about 1:30 to stay in the house while Rhett slept. I rushed to pick Kellyn up early from preschool and on our way home the sirens went off while we were in the car and she began crying. She calmed down once we got home and saw her Mimi and read some books. But then the hail came and the sirens went off again so I woke Rhett up and we all huddled in my closet with the dog and a bunch of Tag Reader Books. I've learned from riding horses that if you stay calm they stay calm so I pretended to be calm. We were lucky in Carrollton, but sadly Arlington was declared a disaster area and Lancaster and Grand Prairie got hit the hardest. We found out that 13 tornados touched down on April 3, 2012.

Our neighbor was at work in Copell where the hail was as large as baseballs. His windshield along with his coworkers' was smashed! He said they had to call in busses to take people home because no one could drive their cars home.

Here is a link everyone is sharing on facebook of 25 pictures of the tornadoes that hit DFW.
This one is the sweetest. Arlington police officer, Rick Stewart, returns a man's dog.
Every time you hear people's recounts of the storm they all say how they huddled down with their dog or their cat and now they can't find them. This one lady lost her 6 cats and 3 dogs. Breaks my heart. Praying everyone get's their best friends back. It is also interesting how people's perspectives change so drastically after a near death experience. Everyone interviewed (with destroyed houses and cars behind them) were all just so thankful that everyone was safe and alive. They just wanted to be with their loved ones. No ones was upset about the material things they lost.

Exploring and collecting worms after the storm.

We needed to relax after the storm so we painted large paper eggs and danced!

Rhett walked up to me after dinner and in all sweetness and sincerity said, "God saved us." My heart melted thinking he meant from the tornado. So I said, "Yes, God saved us from the storm," to which he replied, "No, not the storm. God saved us from a bear. There not a bear in our house because God saved us from a bear."
