Ocean crafts

In preparation for the new Sea Life Aquarium that just opened up in the Grapevine Mills Mall and in honor of Shark Week we have started talking about ocean life and doing some fun ocean theme crafts.
We bought a bag of shells for $1 at The Christmas Tree Shops then burried them in a bucket of sand. The kids had to find them and glue them onto their ocean picture. I put glue on the bottom of their papers for them to sprinkle sand on for the beach.

I also cut out starfish and seaweed for them put wherever they wanted.

You see the difference between a 4 1/2 year old's work and a 2 year olds.

Octopus before:
cut a toilet paper roll in half and attach pipe cleaners for legs.
After!

In my online search for ocean them activities and crafts I stumbled across this blog called Homeschool Creations. I was thrilled with her most recent post, Ocean Preschool Pack ~ Free Printables. I printed everything out on cardstock then laminated it at Mardels. We've really enjoyed it.

I keep the handwriting pages in my bag for her do at restaurants and in the car. On this day she pulled them out at her great grandmother's house will the adults were talking.
Clip the clothes pin on the correct number of fish and clip the clothes pin on the  first letter of the word.
identifying site words in the story.
We had fun playing an ocean memory game over and over and over again.
How many fish are in the ocean.
Put the whales in the order from largest to smallest. Sweet Rhett picked them up in the correct order, but had trouble placing them in a line. I think thats pretty good for a 2 yr old.

I found these at Target in the craft section and it was perfect for what we are doing right now. They are these NO Mess Color re-stickable wall stickers. They didn't really stick that good on the actual wall so we put them on our front door. We had fun telling stories about the fish in our ocean. You can tell which ones Rhett colored. :)  But Max and I colored some too. It was fun to see the color appear from a clear marker. But Kellyn colored the most. She loves showing guests our "ocean door" as they walk in.
The books we've using while learning about the ocean.
