Picking Peaches

My friend Jennifer P. invited us along with Jennifer Jennifer W. and her kids to pick peaches with them this year at their annual summer peach picking place, Red River Peach Farm. They open at 8:00 a.m. and it would take us a little over an hour to get there. With it being record breaking temperatures of 110 degrees I thought we should try to get there as early as possible. So, I woke the kids up at 6:30 a.m. in the hopes of leaving by 7:00. We came close. We left at 7:15 and arrived at 8:25 a.m. Jennifer W. pulled in right behind us so we got a bucket and began picking right away.
Rhett really got into it. He picked nearly a full bucket on his own! I just love this picture of him.

All the little peach pickers.

I thought this picture was cute because Rhett went over to talk to Charlie while their big sister were chatting in the background.

We ended our experience with some yummy peach ice cream with Caden at 9:30 in the morning.
We came home with 2 buckets full of peaches!

Then we went home, changed clothes and left for the hospital. Maw-maw just had back surgery 2 days ago. So we went up there to have lunch with her and my mom and to show them our peaches. We gave some to Mimi so she could bake us a peach pie. Rhett woke up from his nap that afternoon saying, "peach pie?" Then the first word he said when he woke up the next morning was, "pie?" And he ask has been asking about peach pie all day. When we were visiting Maw-maw Rhett was so cute and sweet as he touched her hand and play Pee Pie with her. Both kids ask when she can come home and tell us that her back is hurt and that they are praying God will heal her. So sweet.

Driving from Gainsville to Dallas was a full day for us.

  1. Hey Kristi! I've been enjoying reading your blog (followed link from email your mom forwarded me) and seeing what the Dixons are up to! I've called this peach farm but haven't been able to get a hold of anyone...are they organic by chance? or do they use natural farming practices or anything? TU! OH, this is Jillian by the way.

  2. I never know who is watching us :)
Here is their website. Whenever I called I always got the answering machine. I don't think they are certified organic b/c that costs lots of extra money and you have to jump through lots of hoops, but I do think they use natural practices and would be considered "all natural." http://www.redriverpeachorchard.com/
My mom and Rhett made a peach pie. We have made peach shakes and peach and kale frozen juice pops and are going to make peach preserves this week!
