Weekend Trip to Houston and Galveston!

Our favorite place to stop on I-45 is Buc-ee's.
Clean restrooms, good food, candy, toys...

We made a quick trip to Houston and Galveston last weekend. I so wish we could have stayed longer, but since Max just started a new business and he is the only PT there is no one to cover his patients and if he doesn't work we don't get money. There is no paid time off when you are self-employed. So I'll take what I can get. The main reason we were going was to meet baby Selah. My college roommie, Courtney had a baby girl at the end of April and I was anxious to see her and visit. Then we thought we would add a day at the beach to make it more like a mini vacation. We left as soon as Kellyn finished Vacation Bible School.
The kids did great in the car.
They watched a movie, colored, and listed to books on CD.

Friday the 13th, Houston, Tx.

We ate dinner at the Higgins' house! So fun and delicious!

Courtney and I and our baby girls. :)

After dinner and some playtime we headed to The Drury Hotel. Tommy and Courtney and their kids all stayed in a room there too so we could all spend more time together. So sweet and thoughtful of them.
Rhett and Asher holding hands in the parking lot. Precious.

Kellyn and Isaac had a blast doing a little night swimming at the hotel.
It was a neat pool that you could swim indoor and outdoor.

The kids (mostly Rhett and Asher) got cold in the pool so they all headed to the hot tub to warm up. :)

The next morning we had breakfast at the hotel then Tommy and Max went golfing and after lunch we headed to Galveston.

Saturday, July 14, Galveston, Tx.
This was the view from our hotel, The Galvestonian! So gorgeous. Loved it.

I was a little worried that the kids would not get in the ocean because they kept saying they wouldn't because sharks were in the in the ocean. Mommy may have let them watch a little too much Shark Week. But the second they saw it they wanted it. They both rushed in and wanted to go farther and farther. We had to reign them in.
The moment after checking in we headed to the beach.

My baby girl loved dancing on the beach.

Rhett had fun rinsing his feet off at the shower station. :)

Later that night we experienced for the time how much Galveston had changed since we dated there a good 11 years ago and got engaged there on 02/02/02. The Flagship Hotel is gone and in it's place is The Pleasure Pier and Bubba Gump Shrimp. Not a big fan. We wanted to eat dinner at Fish Tails which used to be like a 5 minute wait for dinner back in our day, but because of the traffic from Pleasure Pier there was a 2 1/2 hour wait and $10 parking. We finally drove away that horrible spot to Casey's and woke Rhett up at 9:30 p.m. to eat dinner. We were seated immediately and had good service and great seafood as usual. Love that place! It was a hot mess on the Sea Wall and we will not go near the Pleasure Pier again.

Sunday, July 15.
A little early morning swim then off to the beach.
After a quick breakfast the kids wanted to swim in the pool.

Good Morning, Ocean.

Kellyn just hunted for seashells all morning.

Max loved feeding the seagulls and Rhett joined him.
Then it rained and we had grab our stuff and run back to our room.

We went to lunch at The Spot, one of our other favorite places. Then we went shell shopping. Kellyn wanted to go to Murdoch's, but of course it is so close to The Pleasure Pier that there was no place to park so we went down the way to a little shell shack, but she found what she wanted to spend her money on.

Rhett spent his money on a little Spiderman car from Big Lots.

Mommy/Daughter pedicure in Galveston.

We stopped at the Higgins house one last time to pick up Max's golf clubs and say bye to Selah. :)  Kellyn just loved holding her.
