I'm sorry you are getting so many blog updates from me in one day. I have found myself using Instagram as my blog, but I'm trying to get back to it.
We went to my parents' property in Loving, TX. last weekend (time change weekend) for opening deer season. This is where my brother raises his all natural, grass-fed beef.
Henry, the donkey.
My brother's goats were all attacked and killed by someones Rottweiler last year so they decided to get a donkey for their new heard of sheep/goats. Donkeys hate dogs and will kill them to protect the herd.
My big girl and I riding around on the 4-wheeler. She agreed to wear camouflage if it was pink. :) Then she added an accessory.
There is just nothing sweeter than watching my boys fish together.
I'm more of a fisherman than a hunter and have been trying to get my kids like fishing too. Up until this point they are both afraid to touch a fish and freaked out and ran away every time I had one thrashing on the line as I reeled it in. However, they did much better and were much braver this trip.
On the first day we were there we went fishing in the heat of the day because the kids didn't want to wait until the evening. So we only caught small 1 pound bass. But it was still fun.
Later the kids went bone hunting. It's kind of like Easter egg hunting, but old hog or cow bones out in a pasture. Kellyn is always adding things like this to "her collection."
That night Max invited me to sit in the deer blind with him. I bundled up and took a blanket and my book. It was really quite nice to see and hear nature so clearly. We couldn't make a sound or talk yet after a while it got loud with birds chirping and fluttering and the wind blowing. We never saw deer, but Max went back to that same stand the early the next more and saw a lot, even a 6 point.
In the morning Rhett put back on his lizard costume and went to feed Henry.
We went fishing in the morning and did great with one little hiccup. Kellyn insisted on holding the worms for me. I reluctantly agreed with one condition, you cannot name them. She did not hold up to her end of the bargain. It is a little frustrating when you are not yet done fishing, but you cannot use anymore worms because your very sensitive and nurturing daughter has given them all names and become attached to each of them. Luckily 1 died of natural causes so she was willing to part with it
and Mama was able to catch a big fish with it!
I caught a nearly 3 pound bass and gave Kellyn all the credit for sacrificing her dead worm, Clara Belle. And you know what!? She touched the fish! My daughter touched a lived fish that I caught! Progress, people, progress.
And the lizard was willing to touch it too!
Max, my brother, Jacob, the property manger and the kids.
The kids and my mom and I came home after lunch, but Max, dad, and Jacob stayed late to move hay, check feeders, feed cows, and who knows what else. Max didn't know what he was getting into when he married into this hot mess of a hunting family. :)
