At the end of July we planned a fun trip to Galveston for us the big kids before their lives were turned upside down with yet another baby int he house. We intended to leave on a Saturday morning and drive to Houston to spend the night at my college roommate's, Courtney, house, but Bo got sick. He had a fever off and on for 3 days so I took him to the doctor and they said he had his first ear infection and gave us an antibiotic. :( So we left on Sunday and drove straight to Galveston while Bo stayed with my parents.
I saw this great idea for road trip snacks on pinterest.
First stop: The Collin Street Bakery!
We stayed at the Moody Gardens. They have their own mini Hawaiian Falls type beach on property complete with lazy river. We checked in at 4:00 then went straight there. It was so fun!
Kellyn packed her own fancy pillow. :)
We took the kids to dinner at one of our old favorite places, Fish Tales. It was neat to sit up on the balcony. My only complaint would be the new Pleasure Pier. Well, it's not that new, but it wasn't there 13 years ago when Max and I were dating in Galveston while he was in PT school. But when hurricane Ike hit and destroyed the Flagship Hotel they built this. I'm sure it's fun, but makes everything so crowded and commercial. :(
On our 2nd day there we decided to start early and beat the hot July, Texas heat so we got up at the butt crack of dawn and picked up donuts on the way to the beach. Max took this picture of me 31 weeks pregnant on the beach.
Kellyn took this picture of Max and I.
We were the only people playing on the beach that early.
Eating donuts on the beach!
We had lunch at Bubba Gump Shrimp! It was so yummy and fun to sit out over the bay. Then we shopped at Murdoch's for a while. This was Kellyn's favorite thing to do. :)
The Dinosaur's Alive event was going on while we were there and Rhett was in heaven!
We then took a ride on the paddle boat.
I'm sad I didn't get any pictures of what we did that night. We went to a magic show! And it was so cool and funny.
The next morning we hugged the penguin goodbye...
and Kellyn and I headed off to get a mani and pedi while the boys cleaned the sand out of the minivan. :)
After check out we headed to Chic-fil-a in Houston to have lunch with my college roommate, Courtney! After lunch we went to her house to swim! Then went to dinner with them. Here we are with some our kids. We both have 3 kids, but not all were there. :) I miss her often and really, really wish she lived closer and our kids could be friends growing up.
We had such a great quick trip. I wish it could have last longer. After dinner we headed back to Dallas and got home around 11:00 p.m. I'm sure my mom was glad since we had to care for my sick toddler, elderly dog, my brother's hyper puppy, and my high maintenance grandmother. She is either or a saint or too crazy to ever say no. And I'm grateful for it. :)
