Blueberry Picking

My friend, Jennifer W., had seen our pictures from when we went blueberry picking in Edom at Blueberry Hill Farms last year and wanted to try it out with us this year. And since we couldn't go the weekend of the 25th with the our Life Group leaders, Whittles, due to our vacation plans in Glen Rose we decided to go the Wednesday before on the 22nd. The got to our house at 7:45 a.m. We all rode in my car and Kellyn was so excited to ride in the 3rd row with Caden since we normally keep it down.

The blueberry pickers. Kellyn, Caden and Rhett

Kellyn always enjoys running wild in field.

My little farmer is a little more subdued.

The weather could not have been more perfect. This is our 3rd summer to pick and usually it is so HOT you sweat through your clothes and the bright, hot sun just beats down on your skin. However, this was not the case this year! It had stormed the night before and cooled things off a bit plus it was overcast so while we were warm and humid it was nothing like the misery we normally endure. I dressed Kellyn in her swim suit in anticipation of how sweaty she would be by the end of the day and we all brought an extra change of clothes, but we didn't need them. It was such a pleasant surprise. We truly could not have picked a better day to go out there. I know we will never get this lucky again with the weather while picking blueberries in East Texas in June.

The kids had fun picking together and showing each other how much they got in their buckets.

It is all sand out there so I took Rhett some sand toys and tractors to play with by me when he got tired of picking blueberries. He just couldn't keep up with Kellyn and Caden so we played in in the sand by Mommy.

We ate lunch then went back out to pick some more. After a while the kids needed another break so we got some blueberry ice cream.

Then we went out to pick just a little bit more, but the natives were restless, hot and tired so we didn't stay to much longer after that.

This is my favorite picture of our trip!

What a fun day. Jennifer and I spent the 2 hour car ride there and back talking and catching up. It was so fun to hang out with her for an extended period of time like that. And our kids got along great and everyone kept a good attitude. I ended up buying some blueberry syrup, blueberry muffin mix, turnovers, and a blueberry cream pie from the shop in addition to the quart of blueberries I picked myself. We left there at about 2:00 and got home a little before 4:00.
