Glen Rose: Day 1 and 2 - The House, Dinosaurs and Rock Park

My former college roomate, Courtney, lives in Houston so we don't get to see each other very often. We decided a few years ago that we would get our families together every summer for a vacation. Last year was the 1st year we did it and we shared condo in Galveston. This we chose a place closer to us, Glen Rose.

Day 1 - eat, shop, play, sit in the river

The Dixons and The Higgins

We ate met up to eat lunch at The Green Pickle. Then we went shopping on the square. Max bought Kellyn a headband she just had to have and Tommy bought a Buttermilk Pie from Pie Peddlers. I went back the next day and bought 1/2 a buttermilk pie and 1/2 of a chocolate pie. They are only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

As soon as we got to the house Max and Tommy left to golf for 4 hours. The house was only a mile from the restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised to find 3 bedrooms with 5 beds and a jungle gym in the backyard! It was perfect for 2 families and 4 kids. There was also a nice dock with benches for fishing and swimming. I stepped in the mud in the river and it sunk down above my ankle. I could definitely see why they have so many fossils in this town...it's the mud!! It is so sticky and soft then is hard to get off. We weren't able to swim in the river with such young children so Kellyn just sat in it. The yucky, muddy mess of it.

 Day 2 - morning

I have to mention the tool belt Rhett is wearing. Courtney made if for him for his birthday! She is starting a sewing business and since she has 2 boys she is going to only make boy stuff since it is so hard to find cute boy things. I think this Aggie tool belt is super cute. He wanted to wear it all day.

Kellyn and Isaac had fun exploring each dinosaur together and figuring out if they were herbivores or carnivores.
Kellyn was scared of the crocodiles, but finally worked up the nerve to get close. We had fun feeding the millions of coy fish and catfish below.

All the kids enjoyed the fossil dig. They got to keep 3 fossils. Kellyn found a tooth and here is baby Asher and Courtney digging for something too.

After we got back the house and put the kids down for nap time Courtney and I left to go get pedicures and do a little shopping.

Later that evening

We only ate out 1 lunch and 1 dinner otherwise, we cooked at the house. We ate dinner that night at Hammond's BBQ then stopped off to play at Big Rock Park on the way home. It was a super fun place to explore and play hide and seek.

Isaac and Kellyn on way up high on a giant rock. Then we turned our back for a second and Rhett disappeared up underneath a rock. He just wedged himself up in there.
