Spring Break 2013 - Monday

On our first official day of spring break I took the kids to the American Girl Doll store. Kellyn has been working and saving to buy her own dang doll since her birthday in October. I told her I would match whatever she earned and that once she had saved half of her half then I would take her to the store to look around and pick out exactly what she wants. I called it a research trip. We were just researching which doll and how much and what accesories she wanted. I was worried she would be sad leaving the store without her doll in hand, but she was fine. She left very happy and motivated.
Surprisingly she chose a Bitty Baby doll. I took her around that store twice trying to talk her into a big girl doll, but she didn't want it. She said all her friends have a big doll, but she didn't care. She wanted to be the only one with a baby.
So we determined that she wants the Bitty Baby Starter Collection plus a white gown ($26) I think she will be able to earn half all that by May at which time I will take her back to buy her doll and eat lunch there. She was in a very good mood as we left and not sad that she couldn't buy and walk out of the store with it that day. She has been doing lots of chores this week. :)

In fact soon after we got home she wanted to water the plants outside for extra money.

Then she started watering the grass which made mud. Once she saw mud it was all over. Girl is a mud queen. She has always loved mud. As soon as Rhett saw what she was doing he rain inside and put his swimsuit on and came back to observe. :)

He finally convinced her to put her swimsuit on too.

She told him to make a ball of mud then rub it on your arms and legs. He did not, but she sure did.

The poor man's Spring Break is simply a mud pit in the backyard.
And the funny thing is that is was only about 58 degrees that day, but it was warm in the sun and the fence blocked the wind, but they did not like the freezing cold water coming out the water hose to rinse them off.

This whole thing reminded me of the book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.
If you give a girl a water hose she will water the plants.
If she waters the plants she will want to water the grass as well.
If she waters the grass she will see the ground getting muddy.
If she sees mud she will want to jump in it.
If she jumps in it she will want her brother to jump and splash in it with her.
He will want his swimsuit on and she will too.
If she has her swimsuit on she will see her bare skin.
If she sees her bare skin she will want to cover it with mud.
She will want her brother to cover himself with mud too, but he won't want to.
Once she is covered with mud she will want to get clean so she will turn on the water hose.
As she rinses herself off a puddle forms beneath her in the grass.
And she will want mud to go with it.

I had to give them a pre rinse in warm water in the tub first then drained out that muddy water, filled it again,  scrubbed them with soap, and let them play with shaving cream.
Yes, they had a bath at 4:30 in the afternoon.
It was a really fun and silly day!

But there was more to come....
